like what you do

There was a time when I was an unabashed fan of clever sayings posted on t-shirts. I actually own the one that says, "Careful, or you'll end up in my novel." But after a season or two, when the same witty sayings turn up everywhere...on plaques, mugs, doormats, etc...the novelty tends to wear off. Still, I was captured by the "Life Is Good" mug I came across at the beach last week that said, "Do what you like. Like what you do." I needed to hear that...and so I bought the mug. (It doesn't come on a t-shirt yet.)

I'm lucky enough to have been able to retire so that I can do what I like--writing. The problem is that I don't always like what I write. Or perhaps it's a case of the "agent rejection blues" that discourages me. Some mornings I need a little boost, and reaching for my new mug when I sit down with my coffee has helped. Keeping a positive mind-set is so important and a smile is always a good way to start the day.

I have to admit that I'm grateful for the people who come up with these clever little sayings because sometimes they tickle me in just the right spot. So I thought I'd share a few with you...ones that made me smile or groan or nod in agreement. Words of inspiation, consolation, sarcasm, humor, and wit...they're everywhere!

--Wine alittle--you'll feel better.
--I may be old but I got to see all the cool bands.
--Relish today. Ketchup tomorrow. (groan)
--Irony: the opposite of wrinkly. :)
--Sarcasm, just one more service I offer.
--Carpe dormio. (Seize the nap.)
--I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.
--THODEEPUGHT
--In my novel, I'm plotting against you.
--There. Their. They're not the same.
--Put your big boy boxers on and deal with it.
--And my new favorite:
Writer's block: when your imaginary friends stop talking to you.

You may be thinking, "It doesn't take much to amuse her," and you're probably right. A $10 mug is all it sometimes takes to inspire me.

The question is, are you doing what you like? Do you like what you do? What words of wisdom inspire, motivate, encourage, and cheer you?

In my next post I'll tell you alittle bit what it has been like for me to "begin again."

  1. LOVE the last saying. This is a great message. Gotta choose to love what you do.

  5. Unquestionably believe that which you stated.

Your favorite justification appeared to be on the internet the easiest thing to be aware of.
I say to you, I certainly get irked while people think about worries that they plainly don't know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks
