H is for Hilltop

If you could sit with me here on the hilltop, you’d be surprised what you can see. If you arise early enough, you can watch the sun rise over the trees and, if you slow down at the end of the day, you can watch it set across the vale. From up here you can watch the weather change…clouds skirting the sky or settling into the valley, storms sweeping in as lightening cuts through the clouds, birds soaring and diving on the wind.

You can watch the traffic down below, and while you sit idly by, you can count people coming and going, all so busy and blind.

A hilltop is the perfect place to enjoy the breeze on a hot summer day, to launch a sled in the snow, to tug at a kite, to count the stars.

If the valley feels safe, the hilltop is bold. If the valley is deep and dark, the hilltop is high and bright. If you’re feeling down, come on up. Lift up your spirits here on the hilltop.

If you’re in a valley now, won’t you join me on the hilltop?

“The marvelous richness of human experience
would lose something of rewarding joy
if there were no limitations to overcome.
The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful
if there were no dark valleys to traverse.”
--Helen Keller--

  1. The view is always good from the hilltop. I love to particularly be up early and catch the view.

  2. I also quit my day job to pursue the writers life. It is strange starting again at 50 but feels so good to be doing what I love. I feel like I have finally arrived at the hilltop and the world looks so much better from up here.

  3. Ah, the climb out of the valley to that hilltop is sometimes such a great challenge though, isn't it?! But Ms.Keller definitely had it right, the reward of making it is so much better for the challenge! I'm glad you've found your hilltop, I Hope to join you there one day:)
